| | | Homework | | | | Homework | Every Monday we send homework home. It is not due until the following week. In kindergarten students should become responsible quickly. While homework contains academic components, we are also teaching that they are in charge of getting homework in their backpack, home to an adult, completed (with adult help), back to school and turned in. In kindergarten the students LOVE getting homework. We get lots of requests for MORE!! The homework is typically two sheets - one which is handwriting and another that has a daily task for everyday the next week. Here are a few examples of the tasks: Say the days of the week. Write the numbers 0-10. Make hot chocolate with an adult. Count the beds in your house. Write your name. Name 5 words that start with P.
There is a Response Journal that a parent or older sibling should fill out. The Questions include: Child's name, child's favorite activity, why it was the favorite, one activity they needed help with and what they learned. There is also a part that the parents fills out with the same type of questions. It is amazing how much parents like this homework and all the things they discover their child can do. Comments include: "This was fun, wow my child can..." and "he/she really liked..."
Every month the color of the tasks sheet changes. Homework is recorded on the report card. For example how many we have assigned and how many have been turned in.
