| | | | | Third Grade Learners | | | | "Paleolithic hunter" by Asha | Welcome to the Third Grade!
In the beginning of the year third Grade students review the Elements of Art. Once they have demonstrated an understanding they are ready to review their knowledge of the art history time line. Third grade will review what they remember from previous experience about the history of art.
Students will learn about how their environment has been effected by the history of art. They will begin their understanding at the beginning of art (33 000 BCE) with cave paintings. The class will discuss how advanced prehistoric technology was in
creating artwork We will also discuss how form was depicted on a flat surface and how they moved into a figure form. After demonstrating their understanding of how form was depicted, students will discuss what verbs are. We then connect the two ideas into Cave People Caught in a Verb. Students choose one verb that they will illustrate with the use of clay that a cave person would have been doing during the Paleolithic Era. The final product will be finished off by glazing the cave person and writing about the verb. Students will complete a rubric to help them self evaluate their work and highlight the state standards that they accomplished.
