| | | | | Second Grade Learners | | Welcome to the Second Grade!
Second grade is introduced the Art History Time Line. This is the beginning of art, when the first person decided to pick up a burnt stick and draw on the cave wall. Students learn about how history works within the art realm. We discuss how art is recorded in history. BCE (Before Current Era) and CE (Current Era) are introduced to our students. They are shown a make-shift time line made of two pieces of string to help give a visual clue about how long ago art was created.
Second grade draws pictures of what they think cave people would do during their life and then draw pictures of what they do everyday. We compare and contrast these drawings and learn that we pretty much do the same thing, just a little differently. Then they will choose one cave picture to work on for a final product. After every assignment students write about what they did, why they did it, and how they know it was done well.
The next stop on the art history time line would be Ancient China 3000 BCE. We will take a look at their ceramics, and focus on learning about the feet on a vase or bowl.
