Special Education Resource Teacher

Welcome to the 3R program at Galtier!

I am a Special Education teacher, and I serve students in 4th, 5th, and 6th grade who have emotional or behavioral disorders.  This is my first year teaching at Galtier, and I am very excited about the year.

In 3R, we work on reading, writing, and math.  We also learn and practice skills that help students make friends and behave appropriately in school.  We believe that all students can learn and succeed in school if they have the right skills.  To practice school success skills, we play games, have discussions, and work together to learn.

Behavior Support in Special Education Emotional/Behavioral Disorders (E/BD)
Students that have been identified with behavior or emotional concerns beyond the referral process, including assessments and Individual Education Plans (IEP's) will receive services according to need in the Federal Setting II Resource Room.

Academic Support

Students served by the E/BD team may receive academic help, as well as behavioral supports.  The amount of help is determined by the student's IEP team. It may be that a student needs help with organizing their assignments, help with work completion, help with writing projects,  or reading instruction at their individual level.

Positive behavior reinforcement

The primary special education program for students with emotional and behavioral concerns focuses on rewarding correct behavior choices after direct teaching of the skills needed.  Galtier uses the methods outlined by the district.  Some of these methods include the use of a daily point sheet, weekly home note, and "fix it" plans to address misbehaviors.  Logs are kept to gather data and ensure that behavior is being monitored consistently.
