Project for Academic Excellence
The Project for Academic Excellence is the St. Paul Public Schools' comprehensive academic reform initiative. It was launched in summer of 2001 and is the driving force behind the professional growth of the staff in the St. Paul Public Schools. The PAE, as its better known, provides teacher training, classrooms that model the instruction that teachers are trained to do, and resources needed to implement this instruction.
The PAE is rooted in the district's commitment to standards-based education and professional development opportunities for all St. Paul Public School administrative and instructional staff. The model was designed to meet two overriding goals:
1. To transform the way the core skills of reading, writing, mathematics, and science are taught in St. Paul Public Schools
2. To effectively and efficiently provide in depth, on-going training to teachers and administrators.
The components of St. Paul's Project for Academic Excellence comprehensive reform model are consistent with nationally researched and proven practices found in high performing districts.
Galtier's staff has been fully engaged in the training provided by PAE and are actively implementing what they've learned in their day to day classroom instruction. Consistent planning time with colleagues, supported by our Literacy Coach, Tracy Buhl, and our Curriculum Specialist, Maureen Mumbleau, takes place throughout the school year. Staff are highly committed to teacher reflection and ongoing evaluation of student performance. Galtier students are the direct beneficiaries of our learning as we continue to refine and improve the instruction we provide for all our students.
